EXCLUSIVE: Celtic Launch Loan Move for Manchester city Star

CELTSAREHERE can confirm that Celtic have formally submitted a loan offer for Manchester City’s highly-rated young defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

The 19-year-old centre-back, regarded as one of the top talents in Premier League 2, was crowned PL2 Player of the Year last season after skippering City’s youth side to their fourth league title. Now seeking first-team experience, Simpson-Pusey has attracted interest from several clubs—with Celtic emerging as a strong contender.

The Hoops face competition from Championship sides, but their ability to offer European football and a title-chasing environment could give them the edge.

Simpson-Pusey already has senior experience under Pep Guardiola, making six appearances last term across the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cups. Notably, he debuted against Celtic during City’s pre-season tour of the USA—a game where Brendan Rodgers got a close look at the defender.

With Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke departing, and Stephen Welsh likely to follow, Rodgers is keen to strengthen his defensive options. Simpson-Pusey’s blend of youth, athleticism, and technical ability makes him an ideal target.

Celtic have a successful history with City loanees and academy products, including Jason Denayer, Paddy Roberts, Dedryck Boyata, and Jeremie Frimpong. Now, they hope to convince Simpson-Pusey that Parkhead is the perfect stage for his next step.

As pre-season progresses, the Hoops will push for a quick decision—with the teenager weighing up top-flight football and European nights against the relentless demands of the Championship.
