Though McAtee’s arrival has generated significant buzz—thanks to his attacking flair and impressive loan spell at Sheffield United—Lewis could prove the shrewder acquisition.
Despite being just 20, the Manchester City academy graduate already boasts 59 Premier League appearances, far exceeding McAtee’s 28. Lewis’ composure on the ball (93% pass accuracy), defensive versatility, and experience in high-pressure matches make him a ready-made starter for Nuno’s side.
By contrast, McAtee—while undeniably talented—faces stiff competition in attack, with Morgan Gibbs-White, Dan Ndoye, and others already vying for places. Lewis, however, could immediately challenge Ola Aina for the right-back spot while also providing cover in midfield.
