Glasgow Rangers are competing with two other clubs to secure the signing of an “aggressive” Premier League player this summer, as reported by journalist Santi Aouna.
Martin Encouraged by Rangers’ Victory
Rangers secured a 4-2 home win against Alloa Athletic in the Scottish League Cup’s second round on Saturday. While some fans had reservations about the performance, manager Russell Martin highlighted several positives.
He acknowledged that while there’s room for improvement, many players benefited from the match, gaining valuable minutes and experience.
“Many players will leave today in a much better place than they started—they’ve built up match fitness and learned a lot. Winning and advancing was important because these games can be tricky, but we still have areas to refine.”

Martin recognizes the need for further reinforcements this summer, particularly at left-back. With Jefte expected to depart, Rangers have expressed interest in Brentford’s Jayden Meghoma, though he’s not the only target in that position.

According to Aouna’s report, Rangers are among the clubs vying for Aston Villa left-back Alex Moreno, though Real Betis currently lead the race, with Girona also in contention.
Moreno, 32, would be a high-profile signing for Rangers, bringing extensive Premier League experience (55 appearances) and praise from Villa boss Unai Emery, who previously commended his attacking contributions.
“In the final third, he’s dangerous—not just with crosses but intelligent passes too. We’ve utilized his attacking qualities by pushing him higher up the pitch, making him a more aggressive threat.”
While securing Moreno (£35,000 per week) may be ambitious, his arrival would be a major coup. If a deal falls through, alternatives like Meghoma remain on Rangers’ radar.
